Will The Real Liz Tomey Please Stand Up?

Wow… I can write posts all day long about how to make money online… how to make more money from your business… and on and on… Now so many people have asked me some personal questions about myself, and I really find myself at a loss for words here.

I mean… I teach Internet marketing… Why would anyone want to know about me?

Well, was recently listening to Tom Beal speak. I was reviewing The 7 Figure Code ( www.ThisKicksButt.com/7FigureCode ) and knew Tom was heavily involved in at (I was at the live event BTW), I have been in a mastermind group with him, and consider him a friend. However, I had never heard him speak…

I was really blown away. That’s a total other blog post… :)

But Tom said something during his presentation that really resinated with me.

He said that success leaves footprints.

Really think about that for a minute…

In every episode of Scooby Doo what do they look for to solve the mystery?

Foot prints of course…

So when you’re trying to solve the mystery of success you should find someone that is achieving the success you want, and follow in their footsteps.

Watch what they do and do it…

Hang out with the people they do…

Do the things that they do…

Go the places they go…

Each step you take, make sure that you’re putting your foot exactly where they did.

So for those of you who are looking for my footprints to follow me to success, I’m going to put them right here before you…

Now I know you guys want personal information, but most of you just want the meat of what has made me successful.

So, for those of you who want to know the real non-business Liz, here’s a very short and sweet story for you….

I was born to two teenagers in 1979 in Indianapolis, IN. They were divorced when I was a little over a year old, and my mother and I lived with her mother my Grandmother. I was very very close with her and she died when I was 5. At the same time I was very close to my father’s parents (my mamaw and papaw) who thank God are are still with me to this day.

After the passing of my Grandmother my mother met a man and married him and we moved to Chattanooga, TN. I had an awesome childhood full of love from my mom, step-dad, and grandparents.

I spent each and every summer growing up in Indiana with my grandparents. They had 6 kids and treated me as there 7th. They actually do to this day.

Between my mom, step-dad, and grandparents I was always told I was the best at everything, and there was nothing in this world I couldn’t do. Again, to this day they all with the exception of my step-dad (who hasn’t been around for about 15 years now) still tell me this. :)

When I was 15 my mother and step-dad divorced, and my world was turned upside down.

If you’ve ever had and raised a teenager girl, you know they are the devil to begin with. Throw in a divorce and they go absolutely insane.

That’s just what I did…

My mother lost total control of me, and I became mad at the entire world. I turned to drugs (LOTS OF THEM), and took off traveling the country.

Looking back on it all, a lot of bad things happened, but some key things stuck with me and some key people stood beside me.

My family never gave up on me, so I had an amazing support system.

I had to grow up fast on my own, so I developed a take charge get it done attitude.

Now you should get some footprints from that.

They are…

1. Get yourself a support system – It could be friends, family, a mastermind group online. Whatever it is, get yourself a support system. That was on of my first foot steps. Yes it came automatic, but if you don’t have a support system get one.

2. Next it’s survival of the fittest in everything in life – Until I was on my own, I had never stood on my own two feet. I had never had to do anything myself. I threw myself into the real world, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

So my first two steps here are a support system, and I grab things by the throat, shake the heck out of them, and make it work for me.

Now let’s talk about exactly what I did to become successful…

After a few years wandering the country I finally came home… My mom asked what my plans where and I told here… “Well I don’t like to be told what to do, and I don’t want to be a “working chump”, so I’m going to start my own business.

And with a smile mom said… “Good for you! I know you’ll do well.”

So the years went on, I left the drugs behind, and met a man who I married and had my son Logan with. Thank goodness before Logan came along I had already established a business. My first business was a direct mail advertising business.

I put together promotional direct mail campaigns together for people, and sold them advertising. I had several services I offered, so I started selling “dealerships” to others. They could buy a “dealership” promote my offers and keep half the money for every order they got. Then they’d send the other half the money along with the order and I’d fill the order.

That business did very well… I grew it to about a $60K a year business and in this part of the country that’s pretty decent money.

After divorcing my first husband I married the love of my life whom I’m still married to (any by the way came with four extra kids :) ) we found ourself in a bit of a pickle.

He (Jamie) had been laid off from his job. This was 2004. We lived in a small town of about 800 people so you can imagine that there wasn’t much work to be found.

I for the second time in my life said… I’ll start a business…

I had Jamie take over the direct mail advertising business, and I began my search online for my next business…

Okay, heads up time…

Now this is where real success starts…

The first thing I did when I got online was to look at what other people were doing successfully. No reason to reinvent the wheel, right?

I found a ton of people selling ebooks and doing really well with it.

So I decided that’s what I would do…

There’s footprint #2…. Find what others are doing and follow them.

I was in a lot of Internet marketing forums at the time and saw a lot of people talking about joint ventures. It seemed cool to me…

The two main ways I saw joint ventures being done was people finding other people to promote their products, and people coming together creating products together.

So I decided that I would create a product not only about the topic, but also use joint ventures to create the product, and get others to create it for me.

So I had about 15 people I went to from the forums, asked questions about joint ventures, and then contacted them to ask them if I could use their answers in my product, and they all said yes. :)

After the product was done, I asked if they would promote the product. All but one said yes…

In two weeks that product brought in $37,000

Oh did I mention that it took me 6 months to get everything figured out, and during that time we were falling behind on ALL our bills. The repo man was literally calling the house asking when to come and get our only vehicle, and we were one month away from forclosure on our house?

Yeah it wasn’t a bed of roses, but I did it, and so can you…

So my other footprints to success here were…

… Find what others are successfully doing online
… Do it my way and get it out there

If you’ve made it this far in this post congratulations because what I just revealed to you is ALL related to my success.

I had an amazing support system, I believe in and live by “do or die”, I studied what worked, I put it into place for myself, and I have had more success than I have ever dreamed of.

I hope you’ll do the same!

So there you go… The real Liz Tomey right here in black and white. Like the song says… “You should have seen it in color”…

To your success!

Liz Tomey

I have been following you for a while and realy like what you have to say. And one day when I decide to kick myself in the butt and just follow what you are saying, I might be successful. Thanks for being there for us, I really appreciate it. Maybe this time. -:)

I enjoyed your story and think it would be nice to get to know how everyone is doing with this project. I know I am just getting started, but I feel like this will work really well for me, if I stick to your teaching. You seem like a no-nonsense person and will give me the training I need even if you have to get harsh with me sometimes. Thanks for your being here for me as I know I can count on you to keep me straight.

    Hi Liz,

Thanks for the story. My wife and I are a lot older than you and both of us got laid off in December. The population of our town is 1000 (I think they are counting the animals in that number as well as the people).

I have an overload of info on internet marketing and my head was spinning. I love your direct, no nonsense approach and am trying my best on focusing to follow your lead. I find it very hard to do so. I have the smarts, I just need the focus.

By the way, my wife wnt through something similar to your story and she likes to have fun, as I believe you do, but really does focus on what she is doing. My lack of success with anything online has her wondering if I can do this. I need to prove to her that I can.

    Keep up the good work.

Thanks so much for your story. In this business, I don’t care how many times I read a “success story”; I never get tired of hearing how other people became successful in internet marketing. Through your training and guidance, I hope to write my own “success story” soon. Looking forward to working with you.

Thank you Liz. You are a teacher! You know just what we need and this insight to your life is perfect. I am a senior now, and still struggling to make it. Your course has also helped so much.

    Hey Liz

I really love reading your posts. You have soo much to offer and I appreciate you very much. You are definately one of the biggest role models on the internet that I have.

I am 28 years old. I had a daughter after I just turned 16, she caught an extremely rare virus at only 10 days old and long story short was left with brain damage. Not knowing how the damage would affect her growing up, it was evident very soon that it affected her behaviour immensely! A young teenager with a child with severe behaviour problems, was really hard.

I started going on the internet and immediately fell in love with the idea of making money online! However, I spent the little money I had on how to make money scams and failed terribily. But TEN years later, I’ve accumulated a ton of knowledge and have not given up. I’ve made money here and there, but was so involved in jumping from one thing to another that I never really gave myself a chance to succeed. I keep kicking myself in the butt, thinking if maybe I just did this or that and stuck with it I might be in a better position right now.

I’m now a mother of a 4 year old boy and 2 year old girl, who unfortunately was born with Craniosynostosis. I don’t know what I was thinking when I wrote my blueprint before I came in to this world! I love my children to death and want a good life for them. Thats why I simply CAN’T give up Liz. I’m still working, and I Know very soon that things will finally go my way.

Cheers to you, and your beautiful family!

    Hi Liz,

I loved your story – it is so real, and shows how resourceful we can be when we’re up in front of the gun! I could definitely relate to some of your experiences.

Very inspiring – thanks for the encouragement!

Liz, thanks alot, I’m reading your teaching, I talked to your husband the other day, I’m the guy who’s been doing concrete for 35 years,I ripped a bicep tendon off the bone a couple of months ago so I’ve had time to get online. I’ve had trouble figuring out face book! I’m trying to figure this out. What you said is true, you have to learn from people that are good. What you said about people without experience do the wrong thing first. That’s what I was doing,There is so much stuff out there, I was trying to go all over and I was getting overloaded.I’ve got to learn something else, I’m 59,I can out work alot of the young guys, but its starting to hurt, lol don’t tell anyone. Thanks again.

    Hi Liz,

I am finally starting to build some websites after 12 months of trying to absorb everything so all will be spot on.

It was never intended to take this long but there are so many distractions from supposed best tools and info products essential to succeed that you become uncertain and put things off.

Anyway I linked onto you through some other internet marketer and downloaded your course for looking at later after I some websites up( definite resolve here). However your email intrigued me so here I am at your Blog and I am very pleased that I visited. You are now responsible for me deviating again to look at your course BEFORE I get any websites online.

    Regards,
    Neil

Hey Neil… Well you may have come to the wrong place. *lol* If it’s taken you 12 months to do SOMETHING then you have a focus issue that you NEED to take care of. Don’t let me or anyone else keep you from doing.

If you’re learning, that’s great, but you got to be doing too.

Try spending half of your time learning, and half of your time doing.

That way you can still learn, but you’ll actually be doing too!

    Liz

Hey Don… Yep, I’m sure it’s a scary time for you even though you don’t want to admit that. :)

If there’s one piece of advice that I can give you it’s to find ONE way to make money online, and ONLY focus on that!

Bicep tendon off the bone? That makes me about pass out thinking about it. OOOOOUUUCH!!!

    Hi Liz,
Just wanted to say I think your doing a great job. I am learning so much. Thank You. My comment is more for your readers. You can learn a ton of things online if you want, but if you just learn nothing will change. It’s not untill you really DO SOMETHING, that things start to change for you. So like Larry The Cable Guy Say’s “get’er done”. then you’ll start to see the success you’ve been looking for.

    Hi Liz –

Boy, you described me to a “T” above. I need to focus, But first decide which set of training workshops (of yours) that I should be doing. I started your 7 day income workshop, then I went to this blog and the training looks so good that I started going down thru this one.

Then, I get sent an email from someone else whos list I am on and they are starting a viral list building site and I needed to enter a product there. SHEEEEEESH!!!! Where is my clone!!

How do you get everything that you do, DONE???

    You are MAGIC!!

    Thanks for everything.

Thanks for your story and for being “Truthful and Real”! I very much appreciate your integrity and authenticity! I too have been following you for quite a long time and find you to be refreshing, stimulating, and inspiring. Sad but true, sometimes we all have to go through the hard knocks of life before we wake up, and decide to get on the right track and move in the right direction.

I Found 10 Foot Print Points that You left in Your Story and Comments
    1. Get yourself a support system – It could be friends, family, a mastermind, a group online.
    2. Always and forever … Stay focus, stay off the emails, and floating all over the interest hoping for the “magic program” that will take care of everything and magically do the Internet Business on its own after the purchase.
    3. Watch what they do and do it… NOW. Do not procrastinate!
    4. Hang out with the people they do…
    5. Go to the places and events that they go to, make frequent visits to forums and ask questions
    6. Find what others are doing successfully and follow them to the “Tee”
    7. Copy and do the things that they do… exactly, but break it down into small size pieces and do them step by step
    8. Get into Action immediately, make it work, and when you fail … as you will! Immediately get up and move forward
    9. Spend half of the time learning, and half of the time doing
    10. Do not stop … promise yourself to make at least 3 sales on line so you can taste a little of your success, and duplicate, replicate

    Thanks again Liz!!!

    Liz,
Thank you for sharing that. It is so good to place a face with a real life story. We all have them.

I have been trying to make money online for awhile. I have written articles with a litle success, I am taking your course and it is great so far. I am just starting. You are absolutely right about find one thing and focus on it. That has been my problem. I start and then think another thing will work better.

With you help I now realize I need to focus and complete one thing and then moved to the next. Rinse and repeat.

Thanks again, hoping to be one of your success stories.

Well done Liz! It just goes to show that we are ALL in the same boat. (not all into drugs – divorces etc…)but – down to earth people and all here for the same reason. Not too many people were born wealthy (lucky so and so’s) the rest of us have had to work for what we’ve got. You always give out great advice and make it sound so easy and no struggle for you. I wish you well and i’ll be with you for another few years. My problem is procrastination – going from one thing to another and getting nowhere! But I have to change that now and see one thing through to the end and then start another and so on. So if I may say to others? Don’t Procrastinate. Thank you Liz.

    Liz -

First of all – thanks for this post and for being so frank and honest. I can relate to nearly all of it – including the repo guy, lol. We went from two and a half incomes, to one, to nothing at all the first two months of this year, and only one of us is working part time at the moment (one of the reasons I’m no longer in SBP with you and Jeff).

I’ve always run my own businesses, too, and guess I just got knocked around a bit harder than I thought I would and crawled under a rock to lick my wounds. Now its time to jump right back into the fray and get my butt moving again.

Time to get off my bucket of insecurities and JUST DO IT!

*clanking glasses* Here’s to your success AND mine!!

Thank you. You really can’t know what this post means to some of us out here!

    Blessings!!

    Sue

Liz, I don’t know how I missed reading this before now, but I am truly touched. I am the retired (71) psychologist from Acworth, GA who has been buying your stuff for awhile. My problem is also that I have trouble finding one thing to focus on but I am now going through your lessons and am focusing on healthy, positive aging. I consider myself to be a survivor also and I loved your story of survival and mastery. Soon I will put my story on my blog!

I can’t believe how much in common, thought wise we have. This is why I gravitated to your, “up front” approach. I don’t like to sugar coat things either and has helped me so far. I have begun to walk in your shoes, but the lessons you teach have to be learned, understood and practiced everyday. Thanks to you and Jamie’s help I feel I’m on the right road now.

Luckily I could afford a hosting which ends the month of August, after being cheated by some merchants who left me bankrupt (completely broken), I found your page after reading comments about you, where you talk to mention truth and not mislead people, I’ve subscribed to your newsletter and I’ve seen videos of guidance to get the benefits of online trading, I want to mention that the English language is not my native language (I speak Spanish), but that’s not stopped me from pursuing my goal (there are online translators), I am coming up a wordpress blog, I want to do well and follow their advice.

My first objective is, with my first earnings I want to be one more of their students.

Thank you very much for your comments.

  27. Hi Liz, firstly I would like to congratulate you for exerting the grit and determination to go against all the odds that you had stacked against you and achieve the success story you have accomplished. Secondly, before I had even read your Post, I had chosen to have you as my ‘secret’ Mentor, because of your knowledge and achievements in the Internet Marketing Business and I had already started following your steps and recently purchased a number of your systems to help me get started. I hope you are happy to take me on as one of your “not-so-young” students, as I am very determined to master the Internet Marketing Business. If so, I would like to send you the story of my background, so you will know where I am up to with the Internet Marketing Knowledge and what you are up against to help me become a success story.

    Hi Liz:
Thank you for being so personable and answering my questions
about the Viral Spiral. I read Mike Filsame’s Virology, which
he says has helped become one of the top IM Lulus. I will try
to use some of it when I get to that point. Your writings are
clear, energizing and easy to read. It is the following that
is so difficult. I got frustrated in the beginning (several
years ago) and decided to try to learn everyting about ecommerce
and I am still learning. I have a couple of websites ready but
no traffic yet. I am working on getting a membership site up, but it will take time. I am awfully afraid of making mistakes,
because it is so easy to get lost. Well, I can go on and on
complaining and excusing. You are one of my most trusted guys,
so I will get back with you later. Thank you so much for your
    interest.
    Robert.

Hi Robert… Well thank you very much. I appreciate the compliment. :) If there’s one piece of advice I can give you it’s this…

Don’t worry about making mistakes. What’s going to happen if you do? The monsters will not come eat you. I promise. I screw things up on a daily sometimes hourly basis. You just gotta jump in head first. There’s only one person I’ve ever known who was perfect. :)

Dive in, and just do it. :)

    Hi Liz
I can see you have a good star because you really started in life on the wrong foot and came back from hell. No doubt, you are also a very smart girl. I am 69 years old and I have had enough experience to see that you know where your limits are… because you have been there :-)
    You write:
I found a ton of people selling ebooks and doing really well with it.
    So I decided that’s what I would do…
I am retired from my own translation agency (though i still have translators working for me on Internet) but I love books and I wanted a business with ebooks. So I started www.free-books.ca. I have thousands of books on the site and I have created a membership system. I have used social media marketing with facebook but it is getting expensive to pay about $100/day to have new members from around the world to join the site. I stopped spending the money and my list is stagnating… of course.  I have about 30,000 members but one of my competitors has 650,000 members (according to the last news) so I have a long way to go to catch up with him.
I have recently joined "onlywire" that promote my site to 41 sites similar to Facebook but i am still waiting for results after a few days. I write regularly to my list (as you do) but it is not enough…
Anyway I welcome any advice you could give me as you have been doing marketing on Intenret for a long time and I only started 2 years ago.
    Christian

    Hi Liz,

I never heard of you until your name came up in one of our training calls the other night. I was really moved by your story here. We all have a story behind our success.

This is what I have made a pledge to do surround myself with people or should I say leaders that have made a path to follow.

You spoke of Scooby Doo leaving footprints so true. I feel like One of the Three Little Pigs sometimes:-) Hiding from the Big Bad Wolf! I plan on going through your workshops and learn all I can. My thing is I have to make the time to process what I learn.

The internet not so long ago was foreign to me. So I have had a lot to learn, yes still learning. I love simple things. I just want to live comfortable and help others in what I learn.

Cheers to you Liz! Another friend you did not know until now.

    Hi Liz,
Let me say that I am glad I found you and your work. After reading your story here I think we have a lot in common except for you have found your success online and I am still searching for mine. I am rather ashamed to say how long I have been searching for it too. Oh, and we are nearly neighbors too. Or at least a good strong arm rocks throw from being neighbors.

Anyway, I am not sure if there is such a thing as trying too hard to find success with an online business but if there is such a thing I may just qualify for it. It may not be called trying too hard as much as it could be called trying too much or too many things because I have tried many, many things over time.

I have several hard drives crammed full of a little bit of everything. Ebooks, software programs, PLR, MRR. You name it and I have it. I have literally went broke trying to succeed but even though I thought about quitting many times I am still trying.

My problem seems to be that I couldn’t sell one warm coat to fifty naked Eskimos but I could give that coat to someone and then watch them sell it right away. Strange huh? It’s like, if I need to sell it then everybody already has one but if I need to buy it then nobody has one.

I hope to finally find the answers and solutions here with you. I realize that it takes money to make money and that is where I usually make it to before hitting the block wall. That is where I end up having to step aside while others continue on down the path. Then I have to begin figuring out how I can continue on without having what it takes to succeed. If this sounds complicated believe me I feel the same way.

But I won’t quit trying no matter how much I want to sometimes. If anyone out there ever needed to pattern your trip to success I would be included in that group.

    Thanks for your time Liz,
    Tim

Reading your success story makes me hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel, even after all of life’s challenges. l hosted my first event when l was 14years and was blessed to be successful from then on resulting in a brick and mortar business with 7 employees.

Later, when l got married things suddenly changed just like you mentioned in your story about the importance of getting support, mine was on a minus zero scale. This later led to a divorce and that was the end of my world. Ever since it has been a struggle, living single with 3 children to take care of.

Trying to balance work and home has been a nightmare, hence my reason for finding a home-based business. Given a chance, l will do everything within my means to mirror your journey to success.

Thanks again for sharing your wonderful story, it gives me courage to keep trying.

Hope to be another success story

I enjoyed your story. I have been involved in the Internet for several years now but have not been very successful with earning an income. I have written an EBook, developed several websites, a couple of blogs but haven’t made anything work succesfully yet.

I’m a retired senior citizen soon to be 80 years of age and live the winter months in Florida. I’m still determined to earn an income from the Internet before I die. When I saw your program I was tremendously interested. I’ve thought of getting involved in the Resell Rights business many times but never made the attempt until now.

I started listening to the first video a few days ago and took the action steps you recommended. I like your blunt comments about what is necessary to make this business work. I know what you say is true and will follow your guidelines each day as you recommend.

Liz, thanks for sharing this – its really touched several cords with me… I knew there was a deeper reason why I totally dug your work and as a recent finder of your amazing talents and knowledge I have to say, you’ve been my ‘super career boosting’ find of 2011.
I’m so excited to be working with you. I think I said that about a million times already but one more won’t hurt. :)

Thanks for sharing, Liz. Congratulations to you for persevering. I often thought I had some tough times, but after reading this, I realize there are people that have had it a lot tougher than me.

    Thanks for this insight Liz.
I’ve been following your material for some time, wasn’t one product based on Supergirl – Adsense something or other I believe.
Now I’m facing Foreclosure myself and need to change a Hobby into a real business to provide my wife and I a living pension (we’re both 66)……… so I’ve taken your List launcher and asked for your team to set it up – but mainly because you offer advice along with it – and I’ll “Footstep” you for a while!!!
    Thanks for the encouragement
    John

    Thanks Liz,
An inspiring story for the rest of us who would like to get out of a hole. What one human being has done, another can do also. What I like about your approach is that you give specific instructions, not just a philosophy of success. The step by step approach is often what is missing.

Touching story Liz. I have learned (first hand) that adversity is the diamond dust God polishes his jewels with. You seem to have that irresistible sparkle that come through in your teaching gift.
This business has a benefit of people helping people which is like no other industry. I have been learning about the industry for some time but still need the structure and mentoring you seem to so adequately supply.
Looking forward to the next chapter in my life and believe it or not I am coming to the Chattanooga area this coming week. We had been to the other side of the state to visit family there last year and fell in love with Tennessee. It may become our new home.

Thanks for all of your efforts,

    John

Oh wow… How cool! We have a house on the other side of the state too. This side is WAY WAY better. I guess I’m partial because this is my stomping grounds, but it’s so much prettier here and believe it or not the people are nicer. :) You would love it here!

Fear – the biggest hurdle! I want to find a path to follow, but I see I must make my own path while observing others. Who to follow? What do I still need to learn?

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut – enough of that! I’ll simply follow you, Liz.

    Hi there Liz,

Incidentally, my wife’s name is also Liz. I really like your hands on way of doing things. I am currently busy setting up a website which will go live soon together with our first e-book that will be available on her website.

Keep up the good work. I am sure I speak on behalf of other when I say that we really appreciate people like you. People who really give of themselves unselfishly.

    Great job Liz
