The Million Dollar Question… Who Am I Writing To?

We’ve talked a lot about sales letter writing and writing copy in general lately. It’s boring (for some) and not sexy, but it’s the ONE skill you absolutely MUST have if you can’t pay a copywriter to do all of your sales copy for you.

Plain and simple…

And I personally think that if you call yourself a marketer this is an absolute must-have skillset. It will help you in various ways even if you aren’t the “chief copy guy/gal” in your online business.

Recently I’ve been working with a client who has created some content she wants to sell the PLR to. The content is fire! She’s a great content creator. However, when it comes to writing a sales letter to sell her content, she doesn’t have that skillset.

If this sounds like you… You’ve got a product, but don’t know how to create the sales copy (the words that make people buy) then let me help you out.

Start by knowing WHO you are writing your sales copy to…

Let’s look at people who are creating content with PLR and wanting to sell that content to others. I have a ton of clients who are currently doing this, so I want to use this as an example.

So, WHO is your target audience?

WHO is the person who is going to buy your PLR content?

That’s going to be online business owners/digital marketers.

Your PLR content is probably niche specific, and you could get laser targeted here and speak to online business owners/digital marketers in that specific niche.

I tend NOT to do that because I have experience with this niche and know that people will buy PLR content just because they want the content for the future for products and projects, because they simply like hoarding PLR, and many other reasons.

HOWEVER, the correct way in general is to talk to a specific person (persona).

A great way to define your target audience (or customer avatar) is to ask AI. I recommend using a few different ones because they’re all going to give you a little more information.

For example, when I ask ChatGPT I get this…

User: I create and sell PLR content. Can you define my customer avatar for me?

ChatGPT: Creating a customer avatar for your PLR (Private Label Rights) content business involves identifying and defining the ideal customer who would be most interested in purchasing and using your content. Here are some key aspects to consider:

Age Range: This could vary widely but often might be adults aged 25-50, who are more likely to be involved in businesses or entrepreneurial activities.

Gender: Both male and female, as PLR content is universally applicable.

Location: Likely global, with a focus on English-speaking countries if your content is in English.

Education Level: Probably has at least some college education, as they are likely to be business owners or marketers.

Professional Background:

Occupation: Entrepreneurs, small business owners, bloggers, content creators, digital marketers, coaches, and educators.

Industry: Particularly those in digital marketing, e-commerce, education, coaching, and content creation.

Income Level: Variable, but likely in the mid to upper range, as they need discretionary income to invest in content for their business or projects.

Interests: Content marketing, online business, digital marketing strategies, self-improvement, and entrepreneurship.

Challenges and Pain Points: Lack of time to create original content, need for cost-effective marketing materials, desire to expand online presence without excessive investment.

Goals and Aspirations: To grow their business or online presence, to engage and expand their audience, to save time on content creation.

Behavioral Traits:

Online Behavior: Active on social media, likely engaged in online communities related to marketing or entrepreneurship, consumes content about digital marketing and business growth.

Purchasing Behavior: Looks for cost-effective solutions, values quality and versatility in content, likely to purchase based on recommendations or reviews.

Specific Needs Related to PLR Content:

Type of Content: Interested in articles, blog posts, e-books, courses, and social media content.

Usage: To supplement their own content creation efforts, to use as a framework for their own branding and customization, to save time and resources.

Remember, this avatar is a generalization and might not encompass all your potential customers. It’s meant to be a starting point to understand and cater to the needs of the majority of your target market. Tailoring your marketing strategies and content offerings to this avatar can help you more effectively attract and retain customers.

When I ask Bard I get this…

Me: I create and sell PLR content. Can you define my customer avatar for me?

Bard: Sure, here is a possible customer avatar for you if you create and sell PLR content:

Age: 30-55 years old
Gender: Male or female
Education: College degree
Occupation: Entrepreneur, blogger, online marketer
Income: $50,000+ per year

Values: Quality, efficiency, creativity
Goals: Save time and money on content creation, grow their business
Challenges: Finding high-quality PLR content that is relevant to their target audience
Pain points: Spending too much time creating content, not getting enough results from their content marketing efforts

Marketing messages that resonate with this customer avatar

“Save time and money by using our high-quality PLR content.”
“Grow your business with our proven PLR content formulas.”
“Get more results from your content marketing efforts with our targeted PLR content.”

Channels to reach this customer avatar

Online communities for entrepreneurs and bloggers
Social media platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook
Content marketing channels like blogs, email newsletters, and webinars

I hope this helps!

Side Note: The better the prompts that you use the better information you will get. Search Google for prompts that will define your target audience or your customer avatar.

Some of the information is the same, but some of it is different so I just put it all together to build a better target audience/customer avatar.

Now once you have defined your target audience you know WHO you are writing to/for!

The amount of information you’ll need to define who your target audience is will differ depending on what you’re selling, your niche, customer buying habits, price, etc. The example I gave you above is one of the easier ones, but being able to define WHO you are writing to is an absolutely ESSENTIAL first step.

Gather as much information as you possibly can…

Create a customer avatar and this is going to make writing sales copy of ANY type MUCH easier! Sales pages, emails, ads… EVERYTHING!

Now, I’m not a copywriter by any means. I struggle just like you do with creating copy that makes people want to buy, but as time has gone on, I’ve gotten better and better. You will too! You’ve just got to go out there and start creating.

And now with AI this is easier than ever!

Okay so let’s wrap this “little talk” up…

[LizTomey] My Process To-Profits…

Yesterday I sent you an email about my secret weapon…

If you missed that email you can read it at

I had a few people email and ask about my process for writing sales copy and getting it up and online and making sales, so I want to give you that run down today…

Nowadays writing copy for sales pages goes like this…

Step 1: I decide what components I want to be on my sales page…

Things like sub-headline, headline, open, offer, etc. etc.

Step 2: Then I open up Word and my favorite AI tool and get it to help me create the sales copy for each of these components. Now if I didn’t know the function of each component, I couldn’t do this. AI is a great TOOL, but you still need to bring it some knowledge. Contrary to popular belief you can’t just ask AI to create a sales letter for you and it will just magically spit everything out. You’ve got to know WHAT information to “feed it” first.

There is a copywriting course called Psycho Profits 3.0 ( that teaches about all the different components that you can use in your sales copy and how to write each of them to create a sales page that makes people want to-buy. You’ll even learn what to put into AI so you can do this super quick!

Use this coupon code: LIZ27 and save $70 off of the current price!

Step 3: After all of my components of my sales page are created, I have my first draft. I sit on that for 24 hours. I completely walk away and forget about it. I come back 24 hours later, polish it up and have sales copy I can use to build a sales page to sell whatever it is I am creating this sales copy for.

Step 4: I use Optimize Press to build my sales page, add my order buttons, and I’m ready to start making sales with sales copy that actually WORKS to make people want to buy.

Side Note: I have an entire workshop where I show you how I take sales copy and use Optimize Press to build an online sales page, add my order buttons, add my customers to a customer list, deliver the purchase to the customer and do it all in an automated way. There is no cost or opt-in for this workshop. It’s posted right on YouTube at

Step 5: I promote the page and make-money!

Does this take time?

Does this take work?

BUT… I do this ONE time per “thing” I want to make-money with, and I have something that makes me-money over and over again, so it’s TOTALLY worth it.

Now YOU have my entire process, and YOU can do the same thing with just the details I’ve given you in this email.

Start by grabbing Psycho Profits 3.0 from (don’t forget the coupon code) and learning about the components that you need to use in your sales copy, how to write them, and how to use AI to help you write them quicker and more effective.

Then write your sales copy, polish it up, and then use that video tutorial I gave you to get it all setup online and ready for SALES!

I’ve taught all of this information in several of my workshops, but NOW you have it ALL in one easy to read step-by-step application. You now have THE MOST powerful tactic to make-money in your online business.

What are you going to do with this information?

Sit on it and do nothing?

Take this information and actually put it into play for yourself right now?

Choose wisely, grasshopper… YOUR success depends on it!

The Secret Weapon I Don’t Talk About!

Blog Photo Explained: In this picture I had just been back from Mexico for a few weeks. I never thought it would be hard to transition back to my own culture, but looking back it was VERY hard. That’s very hard to explain and only those who have gone and lived in a different culture will understand.

I snapped this picture after moving into my apartment totally by myself. I had to move stuff in, put stuff together, and deal with my brain that was screaming for me to get back to Mexico, but I needed to be where I was at that time. I did it all on my own and figured things out and I was totally ok. Sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do and just smile through it. 😉 Okay… On to this blog post…

I have a confession to make…

There’s something I don’t talk about often and it’s LITERALLY the MOST important (and PROFITABLE) thing you need to know as an online business owner…

What is it?

How to write sales copy…

Wait! Before you run off… 🏃

Why don’t I talk about it?

Because it’s boring, it takes work, and people don’t like those two things.

That’s the honest truth and it’s SOOOO sad because knowing how to write sales copy is the one BIG thing that will actually allow you to make-money in your online business.

Look, if you will just turn off your SOS (shiny object syndrome) for just a few minutes and listen to me and actually start learning to write sales copy then you’re going to go from buying this thing and that thing to making-money from this thing and that thing.

As online business owners we need to write sales copy for all kinds of things…

Sales letters, emails, ads, even in content for calls to actions, and so much more. Sales copy is the life blood of an online business.

When you learn to write sales copy you get a superpower. The power to persuade people to spend-money with you!

Of course, you can hire someone every single time you need some sales copy written, but that’s expensive, it’s hard to find quality people, and it’s one more standing in between you and making-sales. Let’s face it… You don’t need one more thing standing in your way, right? 😉

Now you might be thinking… 🤔

Sounds great, Liz, but I don’t want to spend money to have someone teach me how to write sales copy. I also don’t have a lot of time to learn how to do it.

First… Your mindset sucks if you’re thinking that…

I just told you it’s THE one thing that will allow you to make-money in your online business.

I’ve been doing this stuff for almost 20 years now… I know what DOES and DOES NOT work.

Being able to write sales copy is LITERALLY the secret sauce you search all over the Internet for.

You’ll invest money in every $20 crap push-button thingy out there, but you don’t want to put time and a bit of money into learning to write sales copy?

Really think about that…

Most of you (not all of you) are guilty of this way of thinking…

You’ve got to stop that and start taking things seriously…

Be willing to invest in things that are actually PROVEN to work for you.

Be willing to put the time into learning and applying those things.

Be willing to WORK for it.

Okay… I didn’t mean for this to turn into a rant, but I’m seeing so many of you chasing your tails and it breaks my heart for you. I know you have REAL dreams. So, take REAL actions to make those dreams come true.

So, you can do one of a few things today…

1. Keep doing what you’re doing and keep getting the results (or lack of) you’re getting

2. Spend a ton of money every time you need to write sales copy for something and hire a copywriter

The 10 Most-Effective Types Of Calls To Action And When To Use Them

Look… A button or link doesn’t do a whole lot on its own to compel someone to take action. That’s why you need to specifically instruct people on what you want them to do next. This is referred to, of course, as your CTA, or call to action.

Heads up…

There is no one-size-fits-all CTA. That’s why you’ll want to take a look at these ten effective CTAs and when to use them…

1. General Offer CTA

This is a call to action that you use when you want someone to purchase a product or service, but you’re not offering any discounts or other special offers.

For example:

Click here to purchase this meal-planning app today – and do it now, because this is your key to losing weight and getting healthy!

Take out your credit card and click here to join the #1 copywriting club – this is a great way to start making more money with every sales letter!

This is probably one of the most common calls to action you’ll use, as it’s a great way to promote a product at the end of a piece of content.

2. Special Offer CTA

Whether you’re launching a product or you just want to drum up some sales with a special offer, this is the call to action to use.

For example:

Click here now to claim your 50% discount – but hurry, because this coupon expires tomorrow!

Be one of the first 50 people to order this tub of whey protein, and you’ll get a second tub absolutely free! So click here now before this special offer ends…

Next up…

3. Upsell/Cross-Sell CTA

If you’ve already convinced your reader to purchase a product, then your next step is to persuade them to purchase something else. Ideally this call to action should go on the order page itself, although in some cases you may offer it as an additional option right inside an email, particularly in a follow-up (post-purchase) email. Just make sure you set your email automation up correctly if doing this right inside of the email.

For example:

Click here to double your whey protein order for just $25 more…

Click here to upgrade to the gold membership, where you’ll get two free coaching sessions every month…

4. One-Time Offer CTA

The idea here is to present a one-time offer. If the prospect doesn’t take advantage of the offer, they’ll never see that particular offer again. This special offer might include a discount, bonus products, or both.

TIP: If you want to create even more urgency with a one-time offer, then present a countdown timer next to the offer. For example, you might give your prospect 60 minutes to order, before the offer disappears off the table forever.

For example:

You’ll only see this offer one-time, so order in the next 60 minutes before it’s gone for good!

This is a one-time offer that you can only take advantage of today, so order now to avoid disappointment!

Here’s the next CTA you’ll want to use…

5. Lead Generation CTA

Now you may be looking at this CTA and thinking, “Wait a minute… why on earth would I want to use a lead-generation call to action when my leads are already on my mailing list?”

There are two good reasons to direct your subscribers to join a mailing list:

1. You can segment your list by offering your subscribers freemiums for joining your other lists.

2. You may be doing a joint venture where you tell your leads to join your JV partner’s mailing list (and they do the same for you).

For example:

Enter your name and email address in the form below, and then click “submit” to download this free WordPress plugin!

Click here to get your free golfing report – it’s sure to shave strokes off your game, so claim yours today!

This gets your existing subscribers onto an additional list with additional targeted mailings to create additional streams of income!

6. Free event CTA

One of the most valuable ways to offer information is through a live event such as a webinar or even an offline workshop held in a hotel or other conference room. These sorts of events are also great ways to generate leads or even segment an existing list.

Here are two examples of how to put this call to action to work for you:

Now you too can discover the secrets of getting washboard abs – click here to register for this free webinar!

Are you on the path to retiring with at least one million dollars in the bank? Find out tonight at 9:00 by hopping on this free webinar. Click here now to register – and hurry, because seating is limited…

7. Contest Entry CTA

If you’re looking for a way to drum up some excitement in your niche, you might offer your prospects and customers a chance to win prizes through a contest.

Here’s what your calls to action might look like:

Click here to enter the contest for free—and do it now, because you’ll kick yourself if you miss out on winning these great prizes!

Click here to enter the contest now—and be sure to tell your friends, because you’ll get an extra chance to win if you share the contest on social media!

8. Get More Info CTA

Sometimes you may want your prospects to contact you for more information. Maybe you want them to call you for a free consultation, or perhaps email you about their needs. If you do any pre-sale consults, then you’ll want to use this call to action.

For example:

Click here to begin your free 15-minute consultation (hurry, this offer is limited to the next 25 people who act now…)

Click here to get your free no-obligation estimate for web development and marketing – you might be surprised at just how affordable it is to put your best foot forward!

9. Read More/See More CTA

Sometimes when people get to the end of a piece of content, you simply want them to look at another article, read a social media post, or perhaps watch a video. That’s where this call to action comes in. It’s a great way to get people to your blog to see your ads, and it also works well to get your prospects to watch a pre-selling video.

For example:

If you liked this article, then you’re going to love Part 2, where you’ll discover 10 more fat-busting secrets. Click here to read it now…

The very best way to learn how to tune a carburetor is to watch someone else do it first. Click here to watch a video where you can literally look over my shoulder as I clean and tune a ’66 Mustang carb…

And finally…

10. Social media sharing CTA

If you’re trying to kick start a viral effect, then you’ll want to include this call to action alongside the content you want shared.

For example:

Your friends will love finding out this secret too! Click here to share it with them on Facebook…

Do you know anyone else who’s struggling with insomnia? Click here to share this article with them so they can start getting some much-needed sleep…

Now let’s wrap things up…

It’s not enough to simply drop a link, button, or form in front of your prospects. If you want to get great response rates, you need to offer a strong call to action. And you just learned ten of the most effective calls to action along with good times to use them. Put them to work for you starting today, as I know you’ll love your results!
